Neuro Cognitive Package [Stimulus Presentation]

Axxonet offers two neurocognitive packages, namely - Neurocognitive Package 1 which is for investigating the neurocognitive processes associated with Attentional Processes, Working memory, CNV and Bereitshaftspotential (readiness potential), Tasks presentation in simultaneous visual and auditory modalities, Control of stimulus duration and Creation and selection of stimuli. Neurocognitive Package 2 which is the ideal system to study Mismatch Negativity, P300, Cerebral Lateralization, Tasks presentation in visual, auditory, and both modalities,and ability to tune exposure durations and different intervals as per the needs of the experimental objectives.

Neurocognitive Package 1
 Features

This package is for investigating the neurocognitive processes associated with:-
· Attentional Processes
· Working memory
· CNV and Bereitshaftspotential (readiness potential)
· Tasks presentation in simultaneous visual and auditory modalities: for concurrent sensory stimulation in visual and auditory modalities.
The program allows the following:
· Control of stimulus duration
· Creation and selection of stimuli

1. Attention Processes:
Testing attention using intensity and information related stimuli.

2. Working Memory Paradigms:
· Working Memory: “n” back tasks using visual designs, alphabets and numbers; Averaging bins for correct left, right, absent detection and false detection.
·  Detection of visual target stimuli in array of different visual stimuli presented after present interval.

3. Contingent Negative Variation (CNV) Paradigm:
·  Stimulus 1- Auditory
·  Stimulus 2- Visual with response
·  Stimulus 3- Visual without response
·  Voluntary Psychomotor execution paradigms- 2 repeated responses and alternate responses

4. Word Recognition and category detection:
·  Response Conflict paradigm
·  Comparison of target word with response words
·  Two bins, one for correct detection and other for the wrong detection.

6. Go-No-Go Paradigm:
Response conflict paradigm at three levels. Bins for averaging according to stimulus and response pattern.

7. Semantic Processing tasks:
·  Word detection from memory
·  Averaging Bins for previously exposed words and new words
·  Averaging Bins for correct detection and wrong detection

Neurocognitive Package 2
Features
This package is the ideal system to study:-
·  Mismatch Negativity
·  P300
·  Cerebral Lateralization
·  Tasks presentation in visual, auditory, and both modalities
·  Ability to tune exposure durations and different intervals as per the needs of the experimental objectives
Some of the ready to use tests are:

1. Mismatch Negativity:
·  Visual P300 paradigm presented with auditory stimuli of frequent and infrequent stimulus;
·  Background monitoring of auditory stimuli while subject reads text material presented on the computer monitor.
· Mismatch Negativity (MMN) test is used to evaluate the efficiency of the individual, to monitor background stimulation, while being engaged in processing another stimulus program.
· It provides for both Sequential processing and Divided attention tests.

2. Dichotic listening (Divided Attention) tests using words and numbers presented in visual and auditory stimulus fields.
This package also contains tests for attention and directed attention, Contingent Negative Variation, N400, different P300 paradigms.
P300 Paradigm:
·  Paradigm 1: standard frequent and infrequent stimuli paradigm. Frequency and stimuli selectable.
·  Paradigm 2: Standard paradigm with irrelevant stimuli interposed. Frequency selectable.

3. Temporal Ordering:
· Two bins for Detection of correct order against wrong order using numbers
· Preset order and sequence of bins
· Preset exposure duration
· User made data file

The module also contains tests for computing hearing threshold, recording sound level of the experimental room and control of sound level intensity.

Brain Function Therapy

BFT-Brain Function Therapy is one of the earliest computer based cognitive retraining programs developed for use with brain damaged patients.

Scientific papers on BFT have been also presented in many clinical conferences. The program is used in several clinical centers in India.

BFT is a highly professional program for improving speed and accuracy of neurocognitive processes and measures the improvements in speed in terms of millisecond.

Similarly complexity-difficulty levels can be changed stepwise for gradual retraining or restoration.When the program is used for clinical purposes,i.e. with brain damaged patients, or children with cognitive difficulties, it must be administered by an expert technician, until the client learns to perform the tasks by himself.

BFT3

1.  Number recognition: Increasing number of digits, speed of recognition, recognition and recall from memory.

2. Character (Alphabet) recognition: Increasing number of alphabets, speed of recognition, recognition and recall from memory.

3. Word recognition: direct comparison and comparison from memory. Recognition of word array, shifting fixation points and reading. Recognition and comparison of visual imageries of words.

4. Reading: Reading words and sentences, speed of reading, immediate and delayed recall, reading and comprehension.

5.  Visuospatial Comparison: Direct comparison of geometric forms, and comparison from memory. Speed of recognition, and delayed recognition.

6. Working Memory Tasks
i) Using Numbers: Direct comparison and from memory: Recognize the number that flashes in the centre of the screen and identify the numbers that come before and after the recognized number.

ii) Spatial: Comparison and recognition of the appeared geometric shape from an array of shapes that appears. Recognizing if the shape appears on the right end or the left end of the array or if the shape doesn't appear in the array. Relevant responses  using the keyboard are to be made.

7. Temporal Sequencing: Recognize temporal sequence of numbers, hold and detect the same sequence.

8. Continuous Performance test: This is a typical ‘n’ back test, in which there is a continuous presentation of different geometric figures one after the other in which a figure may occasionally repeat itself, when the subject makes response using the keyboard. The intertrial interval can be arranged to randomly vary around a preset value. The repetition of the figure is randomly arranged and the random order and the figure details are set in a data file.

9. Response Inhibition. Adapted from “Go - no Go” paradigm. 4 levels of performance.

10. Alphanumeric Sequencing: Series of 1 to 4 (as selected by the user) alphabets or numbers will be presented. The series should either be arranged in Ascending order or Descending order (as chosen by the user).

Electroencephalography (EEG)

With more than 75 years of history, EEG has proven to be highly effective in studying clinical conditions such as epilepsy, cerebral stroke, traumatic brain injury as well as monitoring brain functions in neonatal, paediatric and adult population with installations in intensive care units, emergency rooms, sleep and other research laboratories.

The potential uses of EEGs could be far broader than its current use; however, the breadth of use has been restricted by various shortfalls in the existing systems.
