BEOS is not a machine
B.E.O.S. is a theory, methodology and technology: a scientific basis on which Experiential Knowledge is detected from the brain's electrical oscillations. It is not, in itself, an instrument or an application: the equipment that applies BEOS in the field is the Neuro Signature System (NSS).
Experiential versus conceptual knowledge
BEOS distinguishes knowledge acquired by experience from knowledge acquired by knowing: reading, watching television, hearing the news. The brain activates differently when 'remembering' a personal episode than when 'knowing' a fact, and BEOS isolates the memory of genuine, first-hand participation.
Auditory probes, no response
The subject only listens. Probes are short sentences framed as first-person experience, presented in auditory mode; the subject is asked no questions, makes no judgements and gives no response. This removes the verbal answers that deception-testing tools depend on, along with the deception and bias they carry.
The cognitive stages BEOS tracks
For each probe, BEOS classifies the neural processing it evokes: Inattention, Primary Processing (sensory registration), Encoding (semantic processing), Encoding++ (an inward shift toward source-memory access), Experiential Knowledge (retrieval of a memory trace, with visual recall where relevant), Emotional Response, and Activation Suppression (an active effort not to listen).
Scenarios, not single probes
Experiential Knowledge is not expected on every relevant probe. BEOS groups closely related probes into Scenarios: sub-events of five to ten probes. A Scenario is significant when two or more of its probes carry Experiential Knowledge, or when an adjacent Scenario does; the absence of any related EK indicates the subject had no such experience.
Why EEG, not fMRI or P300
BEOS tracks neural processes at the millisecond level, resolving the micro-processes that unfold after a probe. fMRI offers spatial detail but poor temporal resolution (~2 seconds), needs a shielded room and specialist staff, and carries real physical risk. P300 only signals that a change of stimulus was recognised; BEOS looks for the presence of memory itself.
Safe by design
The BEOS Signal Processing Unit runs on battery, is completely isolated from the electrical mains, and communicates over fibre-optic cables, making it safe for mass screening. It needs no specially treated environment and can be operated directly by police or security investigators.
Origins & interpretation
The electrophysiological method was conceptualised by Prof. C.R. Mukundan, and Axxonet developed the probe design, instrumentation and analysis around it. Interpretation is unbiased: an Experiential Knowledge signature is either present or not, and significant findings guide, rather than replace, further investigation. (Mock exercises do not evoke the same strength of EK as real events.)
